Steam Link adds USB streaming for Quest, with two beta opt-ins

Valve's SteamVR 2.18.1 beta lets Quest owners stream PC VR over USB through Steam Link. Both the PC app and headset app must be on beta builds.

Quest owners can now try a wired Steam Link connection for PC VR. Valve added tethered Quest support over USB in the SteamVR 2.18.1 beta, released September 23. The Steam Link app on the headset must also run its beta version.

That gives players with unreliable Wi-Fi another connection to test while keeping Steam Link as their PC VR app. The new path is still in preview on both ends. Valve has not published latency, image quality, USB cable requirements, or a headset-by-headset compatibility list for it. Its announcement calls the hardware "Meta Quest headsets" without naming models.

The same SteamVR beta improves automatic bitrate selection and fixes some corrupted or stuck Steam Link streams. It also lets a Quest headset override the host frame rate when the user sets that rate manually in the headset's operating system. That setting needs the Steam Link beta too.
