Snap opened its Specs First Look pop-up at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles on October 1. Buyers can try the AR glasses in a guided preview, but paying the $200 refundable deposit still leaves the purchase unfinished. MIXED reports that Snap calls the deposit "not an order confirmation" and will contact customers about completing their purchase closer to shipping.
What the $200 reserves
Specs cost $2,195 in the US. The deposit reserves a device after the buyer selects a size, and the remaining balance falls due closer to the shipping window. Snap allows customers to add up to five devices to their cart.
According to the terms MIXED quotes, customers can cancel at any time before Snap completes their order and receive a full deposit refund by contacting Snap's support team. That cancellation deadline matters. It is tied to order completion, rather than a stated number of days after paying the deposit.
Shipping is expected to begin later this fall in the United States, United Kingdom and France. The report gives no narrower shipping date. The $2,395 bundle with a cellular charging case is a separate purchase option.
This follows our earlier coverage of Specs preorders at $2,195. The pop-up adds a way to try the glasses while buyers wait for a firm shipping date.
Where buyers can reserve and try Specs
Preorders are open only in the US, UK and France. Snap says customers outside those countries will not see an option to add Specs to their cart. They can join a waitlist for notice when preorders become available in their country.
The Los Angeles pop-up is a guided, hands-on preview. Snap says it plans to change the content through the holiday season. MIXED reports that Snap has published no opening hours, closing date or appointment system, and has not said visitors can buy glasses there.
Fit is one reason to seek a preview. The Narrow Fit is 47 mm and weighs 132 grams. The Wide Fit is 52 mm and weighs 136 grams. Both have swappable sizing nose pads. Snap's Virtual Try-On requires an iPhone XS or later. For buyers without a supported phone, Snap suggests checking the frame size on glasses they already wear.
