Valve released SteamVR beta 2.18.2 on October 1 with more streaming reliability fixes, including fixes for Error 17. The release notes also list a hotfix for green or black screens in Steam Link on Linux, added at 11 p.m. UTC. This follows our coverage of beta 2.18.1.
Streaming and headset requirements
Valve says Steam Frame users should also opt into SteamOS 0.4.3 or later to reduce Error 17 connection issues. At the time of the release, SteamOS 0.4.3 was on the OS beta branch.
SteamVR can now expose Steam Frame eye openness information through OSC while streaming. That also requires SteamOS 0.4.3 or later. Valve says access through the OpenVR SDK will come in a future release.
Dashboard and controller fixes
The update fixes several other issues:
- The dashboard could recenter unnecessarily for some users.
- The Throttling Behavior selection in per-application Video Settings had a fault.
- Controller bindings failed to load in some games, including Google Earth VR and Thumper.
Valve also improved focus behavior when users interact with grab and resize handles.
Anyone can opt into the SteamVR beta through the instructions linked in Valve's post. Valve asks users to report problems in the SteamVR Bug Report forum and include a system report where possible. It says replies to the announcement are not tracked for bug reports.
