Apple smart glasses reportedly target end of 2027, without a display

A report puts Apple's first smart glasses at the end of 2027 with audio and a camera, but no display. Here is what that means for buyers comparing glasses today.

Apple is aiming to release its first smart glasses by the end of 2027, according to MIXED's account of Mark Gurman's Bloomberg newsletter. The reported first pair would have audio, a camera, and smart features, but no display. Apple has announced neither the glasses nor a release date.

MIXED also cites a June 2025 note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He expected mass production in the second quarter of 2027 and described glasses with audio, a camera, video recording, and AI sensing, without a display. Those are separate forecasts, and neither establishes a final specification.

Where the first pair would fit

The reported design puts Apple closer to today's camera and audio glasses than to glasses that place text or images in front of your eyes. MIXED cites Counterpoint Research's estimate that 96% of AI glasses shipped in the first half of 2026 had no display. It also lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at $449 in the US and the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio at $349. Apple has given no price, so those figures show the current choices rather than an Apple price range.

The same report places a possible display in a later Apple glasses release. It separately describes a revised headset, known internally as N224, targeted for late 2028 or early 2029. Neither reported project changes what buyers can purchase from Apple today: Vision Pro is its available headset.
