Meta Ray-Ban Display can now be ordered online in the US, UK, and Canada. The glasses are also on sale at selected stores in London, Toronto, and Vancouver. Meta says preorders are opening progressively in France, Italy, and Germany, where online and retail sales start October 13.
That removes the required store demo that previously made purchasing harder. A visit may still help a buyer check the fit of both the glasses and the Meta Neural Band before paying. UploadVR reports starting prices of £749 in the UK, CA$1,149 in Canada, and €899 in Europe.
The software dates differ from the sales dates
Meta also announced cycling directions and public transit information for the in-lens display. It says those modes start later in September in the US and Canada. The existing navigation works only in selected cities, according to UploadVR, so buyers should check coverage where they plan to use it.
The planned Explore app will let owners find experiences on the glasses and in the Meta AI app. Meta gives no launch date beyond "soon." Selective controls for mirrored phone notifications are also coming. A calendar app for accepting invitations and joining meetings is listed for the US in English. Those features should be checked on a retail pair before treating them as part of today's purchase.
Meta's Hologram feature will show a voice-driven digital version of the wearer during WhatsApp calls. It is due in Early Access for US Display owners later this fall. The UK and Canadian sales launch does not extend that early access to those markets.
