Meta VR Glasses cost $1,300. What do they buy over Quest 3?

Meta's lighter VR Glasses have sharper micro-OLED displays and a tethered compute puck, but a narrower view and separate controller purchase change the buying decision.

Meta's new VR Glasses will cost $1,299.99 when they go on sale in spring 2027. The glasses weigh about 100 grams because the processor and battery sit in a wired puck. Their two micro-OLED displays have 2,412 × 2,288 pixels per eye. Those are clear gains in weight and pixel density over the $599.99 Quest 3, but the buying choice also depends on a much narrower field of view and whether you need controllers.

The glasses run the Quest operating system and support the existing Quest app catalog. UploadVR reports that Touch Plus controllers do not come in the standard box. Buyers can pair controllers they already own from a Quest 3 or 3S, or buy a set separately. Meta says more than 75 games and apps will support hand input at launch, including a new Beat Saber mode called Flux.

A smaller view, with more pixels in it

Meta rates the glasses at 70 degrees horizontally and 66 degrees vertically. UploadVR lists Quest 3 at roughly 110 by 96 degrees. The glasses put 37 pixels into each degree of view, compared with 25 for Quest 3. That helps explain why early previews describe sharp virtual screens while also noticing the smaller window into VR.

Road to VR's hands-on found the display crisp and its color passthrough convincing in a short demo. The reviewer also found that the lenses' clear viewing area required more careful positioning than Quest 3. Fit matters here: Meta plans two frame sizes and several nose pads, but a brief guided demo cannot settle long-session comfort.

The puck contains a Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with a microSD slot for expansion. Meta claims up to three hours of media playback per charge. The puck can charge while the glasses are in use, though that means another cable during a long session. It also accepts DisplayPort video over USB-C from a compatible device, giving buyers a wired virtual screen for a laptop or handheld.

Meta has not announced a precise spring release day. The first retail reviews should test sustained fit, battery life, controller compatibility, and whether the reduced field of view changes play in familiar Quest games.
